#5 Oak Hill Academy wins Bass Pro Shops ToC over #8 Wesleyan

Oak Hill Academy was triumphant in Bass Pro Shop’s Tournament of Champions as the Warriors ran through the competition.

After taking on Chino Hills and Paul VI in the first two games, Oak Hill, ranked 5^th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings and 1^st in Virginia, faced Wesleyan Christian, sitting in 8^th in the country and 1^st in neighboring-state North Carolina, on January 17.

Though the Warriors were considered the team to beat of the tournament, no one expected Oak Hill to dominate Wesleyan in the finals; however that is exactly what happened. Oak Hill’s lockdown defense forced 12 Trojan turnovers in the first 16 minutes. On the other side of the ball, the Warriors had a multitude of scoring threats led by Dwayne Bacon’s 33 points.

By halftime, Oak Hill already built up a 46-29 lead, behind 21 points from Bacon, a Florida State commit. Two quarters later, the game wrapped up with a with Oak Hill taking a commanding 82-59 victory.

Also impressing on the floor Saturday night was Ohio State commit Daniel Giddens with 15 points and nine boards. Iowa-bound Andrew Fleming and Joe Hampton each dropped 14 points. Terrance Phillips, who is on his way to Missouri, only scored two points but dished out an impressive 13 assists.

In the tournaments three games, Dwayne Bacon scored over 30 points in each match, earning him the title of the tourney’s MVP.
